PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Seventy-Seven Project was a custom home. The primary design goal of this project was to create an elegant interior, while meeting the client’s desire for an ultra-efficient home. We combined state-of-the-art energy-efficient construction, appliances, and lighting with commercially available renewable energy systems, such as solar water heating and solar electricity to provide the ultimate green home.

For this project, a passive solar design was developed. Mechanical systems include Warmboard radiant heating from below and high-velocity forced air cooling from above. A sunspace interior concrete slab absorbs the winter sun. Phase change material in the walls absorbs heat and releases it at night when temperatures are cooler. The result is reduced energy usage and utility costs.

The eaves were extended in order to create a shade perimeter around the house during the summer. The large South- and West-facing windows allow ample amounts of warm light in during winter.

The natural wood and Colorado native stone on the interior blends perfectly with the classic views of the foothills and plains through the large windows and doors. The real wood burning fireplace helps to create a serene space in the winter as the snow falls against the backdrop of the mountains.
